TrendSafari – transformation through experience

Le Méridien Hotel has created unique partnerships to provide guests with access to contemporary cultural centers around the world. The Tate Museum and Le Méridien Hotel have launched Unlock Art, a monthly series of videos presented by popular figures such as comedian Franck Skinner and Peter Capaldi, star of Dr Who and cult satirical comedy The Thick of It. Each video in the series aims to provide a short yet comprehensive introduction to various art movements.

Promoting a closer relationship between stand-up comedy and fine art, Frank Skinner presents the first video in the series. The five-minute clip explores performance art from feminist performer Valie Export through to the Fluxus movement and the work of Joseph Beuys.

While scholarly, the mini-documentary is also given a humorous spin with Skinner’s witty sarcasm. After talking about Chris Burden and Marina Abramovic’s risky performances, the comedian dryly says: “but not all artists were trying to kill themselves.”

Tate’s director of media and audiences Marc Sands promises the whole series will offer “an entertaining, thought-provoking yet witty approach to the subject.”
